About This Blog

I’d been thinking about starting a blog for some time and I figured that now was a pretty good time to start.

In the blink of an eye, I found myself in my mid-thirties and single but otherwise happily situated in a pretty good place in life. Looking back, I’ve had many a trying moment and I’ve found it interesting that what I thought would work, never did and the things that I never thought stood a chance in hell, turned out pretty okay. Life is funny that way, isn’t it?

The title of this blog is a nod to the unpredictability of life, to the shitshow that inevitably occurs, no matter the best-laid plans. It’s a story about that girl, the straight A student, the one who attended the right college and who (at least on her resume) did all the right things, and yet who still makes daily missteps and, miraculously, somehow manages to survive it all and live to tell a grand tale. Oh, and if it’s not totally obvious, let me be clear: that girl is ME.

I’ll talk about my life, things that I encounter, stories shared with me and generally use this as a sounding board.

A couple of housekeeping tips for this blog. This isn’t my first time in the blogosphere and I’ve not always blogged while on my best behavior. So here are the rules that I must commit to digital paper to keep myself on track.

1) Keep all stories I tell about others anonymous and copascetic. If someone reads the story, will feel confident that it’s not obvious that it’s about them and I could face them and not feel guilty about sharing anything private or confidential.

2) Do not blog after having imbibed. I think that one is self-explanatory.

3) Be honest.

4) Don’t be mean. Never be mean. Say it because it needs to be said but don’t say anything about others that should be said face to face.

I think that’s it for now. Ok, here we go…
